Money.
Fair wages for creatives our #1 priority. All of our teachers receive either $100/hr or a 40/60 split, whichever is higher. No hidden agendas here! Our Design Team is paid monthly based on a flat rate and design services needed. Currently our admin team is paid $20/hr - $26/hr. Founder and Director Alex Brennan-Arnopol is paid $24k annually. Rec Center makes a monthly donation to both the Tongva Gabrielino Tribe, as well as the Alliance for California Traditional Arts of a varying amount between $5-$100, depending on monthly income.
People.
We believe in diversity. We currently have a teaching team of roughly 34 teachers that rotate out monthly. 20% are trans or non-binary and 80% are female. 65% identify as LGBTQA+. 40% are BIPOC. 40% live in the LA region, 15% live in the DC-Metro area, 10% live in Chicago, and 35% live in either NYC, the Pacific Northwest, Philly, or San Francisco.
